Felting is a very versatile way of crafting. Flat 2D shapes can be made by wet felting or needle felting as well as 3D shapes. By the same technique as making a flat wet felted shape a 3D hollow shape can be made using what is called a resist. This is a flexible form of flat plastic around which the wool is laid. The wool is then wetted down with water and soap, rubbed and flattened. Then rolled and finally the resist is taken out and your hollow shape is further fulled. Fulling is making the hair fibers interlock firmly. In the following pictures you see the process worked out. by clicking on the pictures you can start a slide show. |
