Something fishy and something fun

A little while ago I bought some totally fun yarn and yesterday I made me the most perfect fish hat, one can never have too many hats at -20 celcius..

Then a dear etsy friend asked if I would like to do an interview for her, well of course. Go have a look what we made of it :-)

Wonderful gifts and surprises

A dear friend Evihan from the EST makes the most amazing glass and silver creations which I have coveted since seeing them the very first time :-D

So I decided to ask her to make me one, since my hands are not all that big she had to make it smaller than she had before and boy did it work out amazingly well! To make it even more special she added a fun little ladybird to keep me safe as well.

An other surprise came from my very sweet husband, who switched careers so we could move here. From a high pressure IT job where he led an entire team of people he now works for a company that makes anything and everything from wood. Their creations are to be found all over the world and fortunately he thrives there very well.

And of course he has learned himself quite some new skills, like how to make me a cabinet for all my dyepots. The door is formed by a picture frame with a picture made by my great friend Frances.

A big pile of snow

Overnight over 20cm of fluffy snow has fallen, way fun to play in and the temperature has risen to a balmy -7degrees Celcius. So no icicles while romping around in the snow and sledding off our drive.

Winterwonderland

It is holiday time, we are drinking gløgg, eating smulteringer and the candles are lit. Outside it is freezing -10 degrees celcius and everything is covered in fluffy snow.

Happy days to all :-D

Come walk with me

After quite some weeks of +/_ 0 ish degrees celcius finally frost has arrived for real. -25 to -15 degrees is much better, the air dries up and it is not so slippery. Then we had some new snow too that formed the downiest of blankets of gazillions of ice crystals. So beautiful and all at once everything is muffled in silence too. Truly magical!

Then there was the school play, to close off 2009. The boys have had a year and a half to practice their norwegian and Tom, the oldest one had a major part to play. I nealy needed a hanky so proud was I. He stood up there like one of the kids, speaking norwegian as if he had never done anything else in his life..They are such cool kids :-D

These cool kids love nothing better than to have a hot chocolate when they come out from the cold so when I saw the tutorial posted by Marta on how to make chocolate zwizzle sticks I at once ordered a silicon form to make these. Which we did today, big time njummie!

Cold weather asks for hot wraps

I was asked for an orange wrap, not a color that I use very often. Maybe I should reconsider that. It is for a young lady and she wanted nothing shiny and rectangular so when the first one rolled out of my hands I knew I would have to make one more. Way too shiny :-D

The second one is pure fire, no embellishments. I hope she will like it. Or maybe I should give the first one? Oh the everlasting nagging doubt...

A roof and a blouse

Our little hallway is making progress...slowly but surely :-D

And I bought as a christmas present to myself a blouse, a blouse you say...what's so special about that? Why mention it here? Well it is not just any ole blouse. It is a handmade one, smocked neckline and sleeves. With unparallelled precision it has been put together, the eye for detail is stunning. Something I always hugely admire as I am more of a slap dash worker, building as I go along often without a proper plan. So when I see something made with beautiful materials an meticulous craftsmanship I am smitten right away. I had seen the work of Anna Fabo on etsy popping up for a year on etsy and now I thought it was high time to spoil myself :-D

Secret Santa and other gifts

With the EuropeanStreetTeam on etsy we play a game called secret santa. We all fill in questionnaires which get matched by our santa Mitsy. Mitsy is a master matchmaker and Dawn was to make mine. She could not have chosen better! I have been looking at the marvellous work of Dawn from LaTouchables since I first met her, but to buy a bag...well...I have a few...so I never felt justified doing that. She had the same feeling about my scarves, so we thouight of trading but it never happened. And then came along santa Mitsy and she matched us up :-D

I adore the bag she sent me, all the superb details, the fabric, the finishing touches. Truly skilled in such a loving way. You feel the pride with which she makes her bags, it oozes class and style. But still has that super fun element that appeals to me so as well.

Then there arrived too silk laps for which I have been searching for 2 years. I could find them here and there in small or huuuuge amounts. Both instances too expensive. But now I have found a factory willing to ship me a kilo at a time. The price is reasonable and the service is outstanding! At once I made me a nearly all silk scarf, up for grabs in my shop soon :-)

Ranger poncho

The boys are very enamoured by Will the ranger from a series of books written by John Flanagan. This ranger wears a cape so he can move unseen through the forest. It inspired me to make one for me. Felted all in one piece a huge poncho with a pointy hood to keep out the elments. It it felted down really densely so it is super warm and insulates very well. The snow does not even melt on the outside when I am walking eventhough I am producing a lot of heat clambering up a mountain :-D
